How I Lost 45 Pounds
Before: After:
I started out in March of 2007 weighing from 164-168 pounds. It was during a conversation at Home Town Buffet with a dear Christian sister that I decided to get serious. She suggested that I just take a walk every day and I realized that I could do that.
The most important thing I did was to lean on God. I renounced my sin of gluttony and sloth. I asked Him for help every morning and asked Him to glorify Himself through my body. Every night I thanked Him for His help and confessed my shortcomings.
I
joined an online support group and got a weightloss
ticker. The accountability really helped. Around
that time I also found www.fitday.com where I learned how to eat
right. For about 2 months I had to input everything I ate
and all my exercise as well. Before eating something, I'd
think about how it would affect my stats and would often just
decide not to. I would also check my nutrition and see if I
needed to eat something healthy for a certain nutrient.
I
found out that when I eat processed/refined grains, such as white
rice or flour, I get very hungry very soon. So, avoiding white
bread and such has been very helpful to keep my blood sugar even.
Also, it's important to avoid eating a lot of sugar and fats, of
course. Portion control is the other main key in eating
correctly.
My walking soon petered out as the weather got hot, but I found that I could bounce on my exercise ball whenever I used the computer, which is a few hours a day. I incorporated exercise into my life by making every move count. Doing extra tensing as I walked, flexing muscles, bending my knees and never standing still was my exercise.
God really helped me to stay true to my goals. My weight dropped off at a rate of about 2 pounds per week until I was down to about 130 pounds in the middle of September. After that it slowed down to about 1 pound per week. By Thanksgiving 2007 I was down to 125 and I managed to maintain that weight through the holidays, dropping a few pounds and gaining them back again while I enjoyed the holiday fare. Now, in January of 2008 I am down to 123 pounds. I plan to continue eating healthfully and exercising, so I will maintain the weight that is healthy for me. I give all the glory to God, through Jesus Christ my savior. In Him I can do everything, without Him I can do nothing.
